Excursion
The Tate Museum: treasures old and new

20/2/22 10 am - 12 noon
FGC members pass through the Tate Museum each time they go to a meeting – but have you ever stopped to look closely at this outstanding collection of rocks, minerals and geology-related artefacts? Our February half-day excursion will give you the perfect opportunity to examine this treasure trove of material, under the expert guidance of its volunteer curator Peter Keller. Peter will tell us a little about the Museum’s fascinating history, then guide us through the collection, giving members time to browse at leisure.

Lecture
MOUNT GAMBIER: VOLCANOES, CAVES AND FAULTLINES

Date: 3/2/22     Time: 7:45 pm

The talk will provide details and integrate a summary of knowledge gained over the last 50 years about drivers of geological features in the Gambier Karst Province, also known publicly as the Limestone Coast Region (after the geology) or the Green Triangle (based on its abundant groundwater resources).  It will focus on the Tartwaup and Nelson Faults, and their relevance to cave systems & volcanic activity in the Mount Gambier region.
